Risk Management in Investments

According to me these are the ways in which one should manage their risks while making their investments 1. Invest small amounts to experiment in any new asset class to begin with 2. Do your research and be updated with the current market position 3. Take expert advice apart from building your own expertise 4. Try adopting the method of time diversification by investing small amounts of money in the same asset class in different time periods 5. Never put all your money in one company or asset class. Try to diversify and incorporate all the asset classes into your portfolio to manage risks: a. One should do intra-Asset class diversification wherein you can invest in stock but in large cap, mid cap and small cap companies b. Also one should inter-Asset Class diversification wherein you can invest in F.D, commodities like Gold/Silver, Debt funds, Equity funds, Properties, etc. And of course, as always, I like to check with AI about their thoughts a...

Different Asset Classes for Investments !

As per my current understanding the following are the various asset classes of Investment: 1.          Fixed Deposit (F.D)  - A fixed deposit is investment in which depositors deposit their money for a fixed period of time at a pre-determined interest rate (of the order of  5 to 7% usually in India) . 2.          Debt Funds  – These types of funds are handled by banks or NBFC firms which give loans to multiple companies out of the pool of money deposited with them by various investors. The investors get interest ranging between 7-9% while the firms charge an interest of 12-20% from the companies which they lend money to. This difference in the interest rates becomes the profit of these lending institutions. 3.          Equity Funds  – These are categorized under the following heads: i)    Direct Investments  –   In...

Movie Reviews - Mona Lisa Smiling

Really floored by this brilliant movie by Julia Roberts. Mentioning few positive obervations first: 1. Loved how Ms. Katherine Watson (the teacher at Wellesley college) did not let the students get to her after their first meeting and truly evolved herself according to the standard of the students. 2. Liked how she taught them to open their narrowed mindset about art and its features and helped them visualise art in forms which were out of syllabus. 3. Truly admire the way she advocated for women as capable of becoming more than what they were stereotyped to be i.e. homemakers and nudged them to chase their dreams but unfortunately their dreams were also conditioned to follow in the footsteps of society, get married and 'have a family' as in the example of Joan and Betty from the movie. 4. I respect that the teacher did not force her opinion on her students wanting to trod upon a different path and congratulated Joan who decided to get married instea...

Movie Review: Raid 2

Things I liked in the movie: The suspense and plot of the movie which kept the audience on the edge till the very end of the movie Tactics of the hero Ajay Devgan to spread the rumour that he had taken bribe though he was a very honest officer   Loved the particular scene in which the hero had a gut feeling that the large hand statue in front of the foundation is made of Gold and his hunch proved to be true when he got the results of the test of the sample. Things that I did not like in the movie: Very serious tone throughout and it lacked humour. Vani Kapoor’s role in the movie was very limited Gemini's Review: Raid 2 arrives as a direct sequel, carrying forward the legacy of its predecessor with a renewed focus on complex conspiracies and high-stakes action. As you rightly pointed out, the film excels in crafting a suspenseful narrative that keeps the audience guessing until the very end. Ajay Devgn once again embodies the determined and resourceful officer, this time employing ...

Movie Review: Scent of a Woman

Things I liked about the movie: ·       Loved the way Al Pacino, as Colonel Slade, held the movie together by his humor and impactful screen presence and charisma. ·       He portrayed the character of an ex-army officer, who became blind in a grenade related accident, effortlessly and with great conviction. He was extremely confident and wanted to be self-reliant as much as feasible with his special condition. ·       Loved how Charlie understood Colonel’s situation with great empathy and became his friend during the trip to New York city. Things I did not like about the movie: ·       Despite witnessing the group of students plotting the mischief against the principal, Charlier did not tell the truth to the principal and in a way encouraged the misdemeanor of his fellow students. He was also willing to let go of his scholarship opportunity for higher studies ju...
